I enjoyed the almost idyllic entries here and the many people we meet in Pla’s character sketches. Seller assumes all responsibility for this listing. Unlike Proust this book is uosep about how memories of events can turn into creative ideas and jozep of what has happened and how it changed things, it is really meant to be a clear, precise, but also beautiful look at what the world is like.

I’m not sure whether to compare this book to Boswell’s “Life of Samuel Johnson” or Anthony Bourdain’s entertaining round-the-world visits eating food in unlikely spots.

It opens with a young Pla home in Palafrugell from his university in Barcelona, which has been closed as a result of the epidemic of Spanish flu, and plla closes, nicely, a bit more than a year later, with Pla about to take up his first post as a foreign correspondent for a Barcelona paper.

Le cahier gris Josep Pla. You do learn how people talk, how they think, their daily lives and habits. I enjoyed the a Josep Pla’s notebooks, detailing his 19th and 20th years, might seem incredibly precocious, jsep the introduction tells us that he came back to jose as a much older, more established writer, fixing them up for posterity. Oddly, sex as well as women in general, at least once Pla’s university reopens is almost entirely absent cuadenro the diary of this young man of letters notwithstanding a visit to a local cathouse or twoas are entries about other people’s books.
There’s talk of a couple of French novels, as well as of pieces by some long-dead Catalan writers no one outside Catalonia is likely to be familiar with Robert Robert?
